A photo series that juxtaposes dogs with famous authors

About a year ago, Italian photographer Dan Bannino adopted a shelter dog named Rothko. It was through Rothko that he realized how many dogs around the world suffered from deplorable living conditions. The series ‘Poetic Dogs’, which juxtaposes dogs with famous writers, is Bannino’s way of giving these homeless and neglected animals a voice.

‘Poetic Dogs is photo-project where dogs are beside famous writers: speaking through their expressions, sounds and movements, they’re telling you everything saying nothing, just like an author would do with words in a fine poem’, he says.

The series is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to increase awareness and raise funding for food and medical supplies. Rewards include limited edition prints, a book, and a calendar. You can pledge your support here.

‘Most of these dogs suffered hunger, sickness, loneliness and are still giving their blessings to every human being they see, in the same way a lot of great artists did in the past, leaving us the treasure and legacy of their rare art’.
