Naptime doesn’t get much cuter than this.

Blogger Jessica Shyba has been sharing photos of her toddler son Beau napping with their new puppy, Theo, on Instagram, touching hearts around the world in the process.

It all started, she explains on her blog Momma’s Gone City, when the family of five decided to adopt a puppy from a local animal shelter in Santa Cruz. They saw a litter of 11 puppies – thought to be part German shepherd, part boxer, and part Labrador, and around seven weeks old – that had been abandoned.

“Big Bird – as he was named at the shelter – was the shyest of them all to meet us, though he bounded instantly into Beau’s lap as soon as he entered their pen,” she wrote.

“The look on his little furry face was enough to seal the deal for me, we had met our newest family member.”

After a few days, 23-month-old Beau fell asleep on his mum’s lap – and then the puppy, renamed Theo, joined them.

It was the start a naptime tradition, as the puppy now accompanies the toddler into the land of nod every day.

“Each day, Theo meets us at naptime and waits patiently for Beau to fall asleep. By that time, he’s also sleepy, so when I hoist him onto our bed, he stumbles over to Beau and plops right down on top of him. And there they sleep, entwined, for at least two hours,” Shyba wrote.

The mum of three shares the photos of the sleeping duo on her blog and on her Instagram account. She also hopes to have the photos published in a book, so she can donate the proceeds to the animal shelter.

“Always dream big. In this case, quite literally,” she wrote.
