Homemade Banana Pumpkin Dog Treats

All three of my dogs love treats, well really, what dog doesn’t love dog treats?

I like being able to provide top quality whole food ingredients to my dogs but have found that high-quality treats found in stores aren’t always inexpensive (especially for 3 dogs like I have). After doing some research, I have found that with a few simple ingredients, healthy dog treats are super easy and cheap to make, not to mention that most of the ingredients you probably already have in your pantry and fridge.

When researching for how to make homemade treats for my dog I found many recipes available. Since it was November when I began to look, I chose this particular recipe because the canned pumpkin was on sale at local grocery stores along with several money back options through Fetch and Ibotta. Also, the pumpkin adds a variety of health benefits to these treats by providing vitamins A, C and E and minerals such as potassium and iron. The fiber content in pumpkin is thought to aid in digestion too. One more reason I chose this recipe is because I was intrigued and curious to know if my dogs would like pumpkin since I had never given it to them before.

After deciding on the recipe, I did tweak it a bit to suit the needs of my dogs and pantry. Since I am primarily gluten-free, I did not have and regular flour and decided to make it by grinding oats like I would for my own flour and mixing a bit of coconut flour for thickener when rolling out the dough.

Oat Flour Banana Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe

What you will need:

1 Ripe Banana
1/2 cup Canned Pumpkin (Not Pumpkin Pie Filling)
1 Egg
2 1/2 Cups Oat Flour
1 T Coconut Flour (and a few dashes when rolling out dough)


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mash banana in bowl.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of pumpkin and 1 egg then stir to combine.
  4. Add oat flour slowly and mix until dough is formed.
  5. Roll out dough to desired thickness ( I rolled out to form what I would normally roll to make cookies for myself) and cut using cookie cutters of choice. After all is cut, re-roll to use up as much dough as possible.
  6. Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Let treats cool and store in air tight container for freshness
